The datathon was organized by the NGO Women in Data Science (WiDS) and was sponsored by Gilead Sciences: Based on information on time and type of a metastatic breast cancer diagnosis as well as details on each patient’s treatment and socio-economic background, the teams had to develop a model to predict the time between the diagnosis of a patient and the start of the treatment.

WiDS follows the vision to fully integrate and represent women in all areas of Data Science, including AI, and to share equally in Decision Making, Economic Prosperity, and Opportunities. The organization’s immediate mission is to change the field of Data Science across the globe by empowering women and elevating their representation to 30% by 2030.

The Aachen-Jülich HDS-LEE team was one of over 70 university team from 23 nations worldwide and made it into the top ten. Even more important, however, is the experience of working as a team on a real-world data analysis project.

Congratulation Ann-Kathrin, Joana, Anna and Anton. Well done!
